Year 2186. Liara T'Soni, now the Shadow Broker, tries to do everything possible to find a way to stop the Reapers. Not knowing that some of the comms have been tapped by Cerberus, Liara talks to Admiral Hackett and concludes that the salvation lies in the Prothean archives, some of them unread or undecrypted. Having exhausted her own resources, she travels to Thessia and contacts doctor Passante, an old acquiantance and a Prothean archive keeper, only to learn that nothing's there. However, she's directed to the hanar homeworld, Kahje, with information that vast amounts of knowledge stored in the archives there may yet not have been searched through thorougly.

Liara arrives at a domed drell city on the surface of Kahje's panthalassa, where she's denied the access to the archives by the hanar. However, she manages to bribe the keeper with a donation to the Cresting Bloom festival. Quoyle, a drell guide, drives Liara in an all-purpose vehicle to the underwater shrine.

Close to their destination, Liara and Quoyle are attacked with a volley of torpedoes that destroys the vehicle's second cabin; the water influx renders the escape pods inaccessible. Liara forms a biotic sphere to protect the ship and they manage to sneak up to the complex, finding it occupied by Cerberus and its crew massacred. Liara, Quoyle and the last surviving technician with an outdated self-defence weapon have to fight off the invaders and secure whatever knowledge is in the archive.
